How to Protect Yourself from Hidden Hazards in the Home

common hazards in the homeAs safe as you may feel in your own home, there are a few hidden hazards that you need to keep an eye out for. The following are a few common hazards in the home and how you can protect yourself against them:

  • Falls – There are a number of areas throughout your home where it can be easy to fall and hurt yourself, especially for those that are physically limited. You’d be surprised at how many people hurt themselves trying to reach for high places. Invest in a step ladder with rails to reduce the risk of falling. Falls also commonly occur due to slippery bathtubs and slippery rugs. These too can be easily prevented. Lay down a non-stick mat onto the bottom of your bathtub and use a double-sided rug tape to keep your rug from sliding around on your floor.
  • Carbon monoxide – If you turn your car on to let it warm up in your garage, you may build up a dangerous level of carbon monoxide if you forget about it. Carbon monoxide is a dangerous gas that is odorless, tasteless and colorless, making it hard to detect. Make sure you have carbon monoxide detectors installed throughout your home and that you test them and replace their batteries regularly.

These are just a few of the common hazards in the home that you should be aware of. For more home safety tips, be sure to contact us at CCW Insurance today.
