Filing an insurance claim may seem like it's going to be a painful and stressful process, but it doesn't have to be. As long as you know the steps you have to take, you'll be fine. The following are the steps for filing an insurance claim:

- Take photographs and video (if possible) of the damage. This will make it easy for you to prove that the damage occurred and will also make the claims process go more quickly and smoothly.
- Protect your property from experiencing further damage, whether it's by calling a plumber or getting an emergency repair crew out to your home. Not only do the insurance companies expect you to do this, they require you to do this.
- Once you are able to, report your claim. Once you've reported your claim, an adjuster will be assigned to your case and they can begin the process of reimbursing you for the damage done (as well as the efforts you took to prevent further damage).
